Deka Lash Eyelash Extension Lowdown

Having recently joined the Deka Lash team, I couldn’t wait to try the lash services out for myself.  Prior to working at Deka Lash, I was a self-adhesive lash strip kind of gal. I’ve been a dancer my whole life and I’ve always just found it easier (and cheaper) to apply lashes on myself and peel them off after each performance. Little did I know, I wasn’t only damaging my natural lashes with the cheap glue, tearing off, etc., I was also spending way more money than I thought purchasing drugstore lashes two or three times a week.

I recently asked my female Instagram followers, “If you had to choose only one makeup product to use, what would it be?” I had an overwhelming response reply and say, “mascara!”

This goes to show if women only had time to apply one product in the morning, chances are they are going to choose to darken and thicken their lashes before they apply other products like eyeshadow, blush, foundation, or eyeliner.

Personally, I am torn between wearing a full face of makeup every day to look my best, and wearing as little makeup as possible to take the best care of my skin.

“What if I could wake up and not have to apply any makeup because I already look and feel confident without it?”

And then, there was Deka Lash.

I finally pulled the trigger and scheduled my first lash extension appointment earlier this week at the Deka Lash studio in Bethel Park, PA. From the moment I walked in the door I felt nothing but good vibes. I had never been to a Deka Lash studio before so I had to fill out a quick consent form on their iPad that stated I agree to the application and to the care and maintenance process (super simple). My lash artist, Ashleigh, and I went back to her lash station where we did a quick consultation to decide what lashes were best for me. I explained how I wanted simple, natural lashes, but with a dab of drama.

Ashleigh walked me through everything in detail. She made me feel extremely comfortable as she explained exactly what she was doing, from applying the cooling collagen pads under my eyes prior to the application to the removal of the tape at the end.

The lash application itself took about two hours and was surprisingly very relaxing. So relaxing that I actually fell asleep. (Yes, I took my first #lashnap!) As soon as the application process was done, Ashleigh provided me with her business card in case I had any questions, and a business-sized card with the Do’s and Dont’s of taking care of my lashes.

I expressed to her that my biggest concern was being able to wash my face, which is my favorite part of every day. She kindly explained that I should not wet my lashes for 24 hours to allow the adhesive to bond to my natural lashes, and when I do wash my face, avoid using anything oil-based because it will break down the adhesive. Ashleigh wrapped up the appointment by informing me of the Deka Lash brand retail products they had available such as the oil-free makeup remover pads and cotton swabs. I scheduled my follow-up fill appointment for about three weeks and I was on my way.

Moral of the story: I can’t believe I waited so long to give eyelash extensions a chance. I’m not spending nearly as much money on makeup products, my skin is healthier without all the makeup caked on, and not only do I look and feel more confident in my own skin, but my morning routine just got WAY easier 😉
