Long-time short-eyelash haver, first time eyelash-extension getter! I'd been researching extensions and subscription services like LASHIFY, but I wanted to see, first, if this cosmetic application would even look good on me. I'd seen a new lash bar open in Grandview, on 5th, so I checked it out online. The Deka Lash website was easy to navigate, offered decent descriptions of the process in general, and of their services in particular, and the prices seemed reasonable for my (possibly one-time) experiment. Scheduling online was super easy and offered many options. As my appointment approached, I received both text and email reminders, with the final email giving me a glimpse of what to expect, and an impression that they were just as excited to see me as I was to try this. Parking was easy - there are lots in the area, as well as street parking, all free - and the shop was bright and clean. It was also REALLY quiet: I was the only client there at 9:30 a.m., and Lexy, the lash artist assigned to me, was the only staffer. I stood inside the front door for just about 10 seconds before she came out of the back room and greeted me with a warm and friendly smile. Checking in was quick and simple, and I let her know that this was my very first lash-altering experience, which just seemed to make her warmer and friendlier. We sat down at her station, and she reviewed the lash styles with me - cat, doll, natural, and wispy - and I originally picked cat, but then decided natural, remembering that I was trying to gather some objective(ish) data, and should probably pick an easily-replicated style. I laid back, arranged the blanket Lexy provided, and settled into the chair? bed? lounger? Whatever you call it, I immediately knew that I was going to get uncomfortable. I appreciate that this piece of furniture was shaped (quasi) ergonomically, but the surface/padding had very little give and no softness at all: within 5 minutes, my neck was killing me, one hand was numb, and I was dying to pull my legs up and set my feet on the surface. I did not know how I was going to get through a 2-hour process like this! But I held on, and ultimately spent the first hour teetering on the edge of consciousness (which is reasonably unavoidable when your eyes must remain closed, and you're under a warm blankie in a super-quiet space). Eventually, though, the discomfort won out, and I was fully awake for the 2nd hour. During all this, Lexy was totally quiet, which I appreciated, but it did nearly squelch my impulses to break the silence and ask if I could take a break and/or stretch. Of course, when I did say something, she was all "of course!" - but it still felt a little awkward. The process itself was painless and soothing, if not as relaxing as a facial or massage, but I was beginning to wonder how much longer it was going to take. Also, I would have appreciated some color commentary - maybe not of every moment, but on the major stages of the process - and some check-ins with me, about my comfort and how much time remained. Anyway, Lexy finished up, I (slowly) sat up (so stiff!), and she handed me a mirror, all smiles. And I LOVE my new lashes! Lexy did a fantastic job, her touch was sure but gentle, and if I do this again, I will definitely schedule with her. We got up to check out, and I purchased Deka's lash cleanser. I had also gotten an under-eye treatment, which took place passively while Lexy was applying the lashes, and we never really addressed that (intended effects, how did it feel, etc.). We talked a little bit about aftercare, lash dos and don'ts, and how to apply eye make-up with these lashes. As a first-timer, I would have loved a demo, with one of those big Barbie styling heads or something. I'm writing this the day after my appointment, and my cat, of course, has bapped me in the eye today, and I heard a tiny >pop!< - like a glue spot breaking - so it's likely I'll stop back into the studio tomorrow for a check-up. There's no beauty without pain! Overall, a positive experience, and I would schedule with Deka Lash and Lexy again.

I got the truexpress extensions with Lora and she did an incredible job! I’ve only ever gone to one other lash business and had a bad experience, lashes were clumpy and just too dramatic for me. Lora made them look so much more natural and how I wanted them to look in the first place! This is the first time in my 49 years in this planet that I am investing in myself. Oh my goodness, Cassandra is amazing! She is so welcoming and friendly. She did an amazing job and took the time to explain proper care and maintenance. She even followed up a few days later to see how I was doing! Don't wait as long as I did. The technicians are nice, I had a good experience overall. The intake process could be better. I don’t know what “11mm” means and if I had I would have asked for my lashes to be all that length… the length they are is waaaaaaay shorter than I used to and I paid $130 to look like I just put mascara on. And then there is just like really long lashes just at the ends and I wish that was extended further into the eye from the edge. Also it’s only been three days and at least 20% have fallen out even though I followed aftercare instructions to a T. I’m not mad. Just a little disappointed. More time talking about what you want your lashes to look like would be super helpful to make sure your clients are actually getting what they want. Especially clients who may not know “lash lingo”
